New outage text alerts lets you stay informed

Harrison REMC’s new outage text alert program will provide members a quick and convenient way to stay connected and informed during a power outage.

One of the more valuable benefits of implementing our new advanced metering system is the ability for us to send members text alerts when their power is out and also providing status updates on those outages. However, the success of this program is reliant on having a cell phone number on record with your account. Please contact the REMC to add or update your cell phone number with us.

When the texting solution goes live in late August, members will receive a text when the REMC is aware of a power outage and when the power has been restored. An example of one of these messages is pictured at right. The system will automatically send these texts regardless of the time of day. There will be no charge for this service, but standard text messaging and data rates from your carrier may apply.

If your cell phone number is on record with the REMC, there is nothing for you to do, and you will be enrolled in outage texting automatically. If your cell number is not on record, again, please call the co-op to update your contact information so you can take advantage of this program and have peace of mind that you won’t be caught by surprise.

Call the REMC office at 812-738-4115 or 812-951-2323 with any questions you may have about this new service.
