Two days in this month — Veterans Day and Thanksgiving — make us particularly thankful.

We are thankful for the veterans who have allowed us the freedoms to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. November is the time to be grateful for all the blessings we have, and we especially want to express our gratitude for your membership in the cooperative.

This month, I would like to highlight a few of the wonderful things that are going on at Harrison REMC.

Collecting items for community needs

This month, Harrison REMC will collect hats, mittens/gloves and scarves (both adult and children’s sizes) to distribute to various community agencies. Members will receive an LED bulb ($3 value) for each item donated, up to three items. One exchange per membership, and the items must be new with tags still attached.

Lend a Hand

This month, members will receive an insert in their bills about the Lend a Hand program. Lend a Hand is designed to help REMC members who are 150 percent below the poverty level pay their electric bills in times of need. Members can make a one-time donation or a monthly donation on their bill. Through Harrison REMC, this money is given to local community service agencies for distribution.

Santa is coming

Come by and get your picture taken with Santa! Santa will be at the REMC office on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. A photo of each child will be available at no charge, and parents are welcome to bring a camera to take their own photos, too. We are excited to see everyone!

There are so many things to be thankful for this time of year. The weather is beautiful and it is a great time to spend with family and friends.  Just a reminder: The REMC office will be closed Nov. 28–29 for Thanksgiving.  The employees and directors wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
