What are capital credits?
At the end of each year, Jackson County REMC calculates the difference between revenue and operating expenses for both the Electric and Fiber Divisions. This difference is called margins, or patronage capital.
Because we are a cooperative, these margins are not profits paid to shareholders. Instead, they are used to maintain and improve the electric and fiber systems. They are allocated back to members as capital credits based on the amount of each service used.
Capital credits represent your ownership in the cooperative and may be returned to you in the future when financial conditions allow.
REMC Electric Division capital credits
Based on energy billed in 2025, a total of $4,565,488 in electric division margins has been allocated to Jackson County REMC members.
Hoosier Energy capital credits
Additionally, $1,703,311 in patronage capital from Hoosier Energy has been allocated to Jackson County REMC members.
Hoosier Energy is the wholesale power supplier for Jackson County REMC and, as a cooperative, allocates patronage capital back to its member cooperatives.
REMC Fiber Division capital credits
Based on fiber services billed in 2025, a total of $1,229,941 in fiber division margins has been allocated to Jackson County REMC members who purchased fiber-optic services.
How to estimate your capital credits
For electric service, total your 2025 electric bills (excluding taxes and fees) and multiply by: $6.89 per $100 for REMC electric and $2.57 per $100 for Hoosier Energy.
For fiber service, total your 2025 fiber bills (excluding taxes and fees) and multiply by $11.39 per $100 for REMC fiber.
If you move
Please keep your mailing address up to date so you can receive future capital credit refunds as they are retired.
Allocations of deceased members
Capital credits of a deceased member can be transferred to a legal heir upon proper documentation and notification to the REMC.
