Did you know your cooperative participates in many community events or sponsorships throughout the year?

In June, we sponsor two to four soon- to-be seniors on a trip to Washington, D.C. This year, one of our member service representatives is going as a chaperone. Her participation ensures that the students who apply can attend with the proper student-to- chaperone ratio.

We also sponsor incoming seventh grade students at Camp Kilowatt.

This experience teaches the kids about energy while they make new friends and enjoy fun activities and games. Employees have also chaperoned at camp several times in the past.

Our marketing department gets creative and finds ways for us to support different activities, such as movie night at Spencer Park in DeMotte and Science Night at Wheatfield Elementary School.

While our Annual Meeting is for our members, we support the Jasper County Fair each year as a community event. If you get up early on Tuesday, July 22, you can enjoy coffee and doughnut holes with us at the Jasper County Fair on our sponsor day. If you are not an early riser, you can visit us at our booth throughout the day. At the fair, we also enjoy participating in the cake auction and the 4-H animal auction. As a reminder, our Annual Meeting is at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in the show arena. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

We participate in area festivals such as the Touch of Dutch festival in DeMotte and the Sandhill Crane Festival in Wheatfield. We also attended the Jasper County Home Garden Expo in April this year. Please stop by our booth at these events and say hi.

Many of you participate in a community effort by allowing us to round up your electric bill as a part of our Operation Round Up fund. This money is distributed to different needs across our service territory.

These are just a few of the ways we support our communities. All of us at Jasper County REMC value our members and enjoy giving back to our community. This upholds one of the seven cooperative values by showing concern for our community.

We have a section of our website that focuses on our community involvement. Visit the community tab at jasperremc.com to learn more.
