Operation Round up is a program that allows REMC members to automatically round up their monthly bill to the next dollar. The extra few cents from each rounded up account is put into a fund that is overseen by a group of trustees who are also REMC members. Local groups, programs and organizations can apply for grants from this fund.

The most recent meeting of the  Operation Round Up board of trustees was Nov. 15.  After discussing the grant applications received from six different organizations and programs, the following grants were awarded:

  • Orleans Jr. Sr. High School After Prom Committee was awarded a $500 grant to be help purchase supplies and prizes for the After Prom event.
  • Orange County Cancer Patient Services was awarded a $2,500 grant to purchase gas and food cards.
  • Friends of Springs Mill State Park received a $2,500 grant for the Village Print Shop.
  • Safe Haven Recovery and Engagement Center, LLC was awarded a $2,000 grant to help purchase T-shirts and food for its annual event.

An additional $2,500 was placed on reserve to be used in the 2022 Scholarship Program.

It was a great year for Operation Round Up. Our granted amount was up by $4,925.29 from 2020. In 2021, grants were awarded to 12 organizations. Six local students also received scholarships through the Operation Round up fund.
