With school in full swing again, kids of all ages are getting settled into their new daily routines as summer comes to an end. Fall is just around the corner, and it won’t be too long before we will be preparing for cooler weather. This month, I wanted to talk about a few things going on at Harrison REMC.

Member and Community Fish Fry

I am looking forward to our second annual member/community fish fry.  The event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all food is sold out. We will be at the REMC office in Corydon, where you can eat in or carry out, and near Limeberry Lumber in Floyds Knobs, which will have carryout and limited seating for eating. Lunch will consist of a fish sandwich, chips, cookies and a drink for $7. This year, all the proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. We look forward to seeing you and others in the community at this event.

Capital Credits

This month, some current and former members will be receiving either a bill credit or a check in the mail.  Because you are a member-owner of Harrison REMC, you own a share of the co-op’s assets. Under the cooperative business model, earnings are calculated at the end of the year.  Anything left over after operating costs, loan payments and other expenses is called a margin. These margins are allocated to members each year. Over time, these margins/allocations are retired or paid back to member-owners. The total refund for 2019 is $1.25 million. This refund covers capital credit member allocations from 1981-1984.

Solar Array Tours

As an early adopter of solar energy in our area, we’d like to share solar information and knowledge with the communities we serve. If you have a school, community group or youth program that would like to tour the Lanesville solar array, please let us know — especially if you have an interest in learning about renewable energy, energy efficiency and electricity. Our energy advisor, Nick Geswein, can provide your group with information on solar and other renewable forms of energy.

As always, if you have any questions about any of these items or any of the products and services we offer, just ask us. Feel free to call or email us or stop by the office. We are always glad to hear from you.
