It wasn’t that long ago that we rolled up our sleeves and went to work to transform an idea into reality: bring fiber-fast internet to the community. LaGrange County REMC Broadband was launched on June 10, 2021, and fiber construction began shortly after, on July 27.

Building a fiber broadband network from scratch is no small feat. The challenges we encountered along the way may have temporarily slowed down progress, but our desire to bring life-changing fiber internet to our communities was greater than any problems we faced. Despite supply chain issues, we pushed forward to reach the goal of connecting our first customers.

In May 2022, we completed construction of the east and west rings, making our fiber backbone complete and fully redundant. That positioned us to begin distribution. Then, in October 2022, we started drop construction in several areas, bringing fiber cables to members’ homes.

Together with our members, we dreamed of the day when our communities would no longer struggle with slow, unreliable internet. As we begin a new year, we are excited to announce that we have, in fact, connected our first customers to spark-fast internet. It feels amazing to make that dream become a reality thanks to the support of each member and the hard work of our crews. And we are not slowing down now!

Our crews are working hard and we are excited to be moving to new zones soon. Several more areas will be ready for in-home installation in 2023. If you are interested in signing up for fiber internet, please visit our website at broadband.lagrangeremc.com and register your address. Once you register, we will reach out to schedule a site survey so we can complete drop construction and schedule your in-home installation.

These are exciting times, and we look forward to seeing how much progress 2023 brings.
