Southern Indiana Power is a not-for-profit electric cooperative, which means we operate at cost. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable power while improving the quality of life for our members. Members count on us every day to deliver the energy they need, and we work hard to keep electric rates as low as possible.
Southern Indiana Power just recently completed a Cost-of-Service Study to evaluate the cost of providing electric service to our member-owners. I am excited to report that no overall rate increase is needed at this time. This is despite continued cost pressures on basic supplies such as poles, line hardware, wire, and transformers.
The study analyzes the cost of providing service to each member using a baseline concept: whoever causes the cost should pay it. The study did reveal a need to make a few slight modifications to how Southern Indiana Power recovers costs from members.
The facility charge for general service members will increase from $32.50 per month to $35.00 per month. This change will not increase the average member’s bill (1,000 kWh) because energy costs are slightly down. Demand and energy components for larger members will change slightly to align with how Southern Indiana Power is billed from Hoosier Energy, which supplies 100% of the cooperative’s energy needs.
The Wholesale Power Cost Tracker will be set at $1.51 per 1000 kWh beginning on April 1. Hoosier Energy uses the wholesale power cost tracker to recover the variable costs of generating electricity. These costs are for commodities such as coal, natural gas, and fuel, which remain highly volatile due to rising demand and the nation’s inability to increase supply.
These changes took effect on April 1, 2026, and members will see them on their May electric bill.
