Our new Outage Management System (OMS) has been fully implemented for the last few months and I would like to tell you a little bit more about it and how it works.

When calling the new outage phone number 1-855-865-2229, option 1, the OMS uses either your service address, telephone number, or account number to locate your meter and show an outage on our system software. When an outage is posted to the OMS, it will then predict where the trouble is located.

You can see an example at right, of an actual outage we had several weeks ago. The system gives us a visual representation of which members are out of power. But it is still imperative that you call us to submit a report if you are experiencing an outage. The more members who call 1-855-865-2229, option 1, the more accurate the prediction is. This allows us to reduce travel time and improves efficiency so we can restore power quickly.

For the OMS to work properly, we ask members to verify that their telephone number and service address as it is printed on their monthly billing statement is correct . (See the areas indicated in red in the example at right.) If any changes need to be made, please contact the office at 812-865-2229 or 888-337-5900 during our normal business hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mon.-Fri.

In the future, we will also be installing equipment in the linemen’s trucks so they can view data quickly and more efficiently. We will also include a link on our website that allows the members to view the areas of outages, how many members are effected and restoration efforts as they happen.

Remember, help us help you by calling 1-855-865-2229, option 1 when reporting a power outage.
