Harrison REMC sponsored three local students to attend the annual Camp Kilowatt, held July 26-29 at Happy Hollow Children’s Camp in Nashville, Indiana.

Students entering seventh grade this fall were eligible to attend and were selected by Harrison REMC for the four-day camp. This year, 95 campers representing 33 Indiana electric cooperatives took part in the annual event.

Camp Kilowatt combines traditional summer camp fun with hands-on learning about electricity and the electric cooperative industry. Throughout the week, campers enjoyed activities such as archery, rock climbing, ziplining, swimming, boating, horseback riding, and team-building challenges while making new friends from across Indiana.

In addition to outdoor recreation, campers learned about how electricity is generated and transmitted, explored alternative energy sources, and discovered the benefits of being a member of an electric cooperative. They also attended live line safety demonstrations and learned about the many career opportunities available within Indiana’s electric cooperatives.

“This was a great way for students to learn about the role of the electric cooperative in their community. On top of that, they experienced all the fun of camp,” said David Lett, CEO of Harrison REMC.

Camp Kilowatt provides an exciting opportunity for students to build confidence, develop leadership skills, learn about energy, and experience the cooperative difference — all while enjoying a memorable summer camp experience.
