Giving Back to the Community

Every October, electric cooperatives around the state participate in Cooperative Community Day. This is a special time where co-op employees across the state volunteer in their community in various ways.

It could be organizing a food drive for the local food pantry, helping out at the animal shelter, or even planting trees in a nearby park.

This year, thanks to the amount of hands available, Jay County REMC covered two different projects

Half our team was able to help at the Elks Lodge in Portland with various tasks such as scraping, painting, and cleaning up around the building. Our bucket trucks came in very handy at this location.

The other half of our team went to New Mt. Pleasant Cemetery for the day. We were able to trim overhanging trees, cut down two dead trees, paint the cemetery sign, and even plant bulbs that will pop up next spring.

If you have ideas for us for next year, please email your ideas to our marketing coordinator at nicholsc@jayremc.com.
