The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are some of the most exciting times of the year. We each have favorite family traditions as we count down the days to Dec. 25.

While the holiday season is full of excitement, we sometimes miss the magic as we juggle hefty shopping lists, various holiday parties and wrapping up work projects before the end of the year. These tasks can add stress, not joy, to the holiday season. However, those of us at Kankakee Valley REMC want you to think of your electric co-op as an early holiday gift wrapped in several layers of value.

As a member/owner of Kankakee Valley REMC, you receive several money-saving perks that come in handy this time of year. Did you know you can save on local and national businesses with your Co-op Connections Card, simply because you are a member of the cooperative?  Since KVREMC joined the program in 2005, over 100 local businesses participate in the program and thousands nationally.  So as you work on your Christmas shopping list, see what deals might be waiting for you.

Expecting a lot of family to visit over the holidays? Every kilowatt-hour saved counts. Our energy advisor, Darrell Marks, can offer tips and advice on how to manage your electricity use. You could also take advantage of our LED program and purchase select styles of LEDs at our office for just $1. LEDs save you energy and last longer than incandescent bulbs and CFLs. The program will change on Jan. 1, so pick up your LEDs before it is too late.

This time of year is also a great time for us to remind you of time-saving options for paying your electric bill. You don’t need to take time out of your packed holiday schedule to visit our office to pay your bill. Instead, pay your bill with our free mobile bill pay app, online through our website or over the phone using our interactive voice response system. We have many other time-saving services available to meet your lifestyle. You can view them at www.kvremc.com.

The best value in our cooperative is the heartfelt giving of our members. Over 70 percent of our members participate in Operation Round Up and have helped to impact the community with over $1 million in grants. Operation Round Up is just one more way that we can help give back to the community and assist residents. With the spirit of giving among us, we thank you for your part in this program.

During the holidays, take time to relax, enjoy the loved ones in your life and reflect on what this season means to you. They are your purpose. The rest of the hustle and bustle of this time of year is just details and maybe there are a few we can help you with this year. From all of your friends at Kankakee Valley REMC, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
