Did you know every cooperative is required to conduct an annual meeting of the membership? The purpose is to hold the election for the board of directors, share important financial information, occasionally vote on other matters such as bylaw changes and of course –– the great door prizes!

Last year, with the uncertainties of the COVID-19 situation, we hosted an on-line annual meeting to be sure we could still allow our members to participate in the business of their local electric co-op.

This year we are excited to return to an in-person event, which will be held at our new operations building.  Very few organizations are uniquely positioned like Orange County REMC to bring together members of our local communities, and we look forward to this event.

Please note that the Orange County REMC office will close at noon so employees can prepare for the annual meeting.

Some of the highlights of this year’s Annual Meeting will include a catered meal served from 4:30-6 p.m., musical entertainment by Kirby Stailey, children’s activities and a door prize drawing. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and include the election for directors to represent Districts 3 and 6. Director candidates are listed on page 7 of this magazine, and all members who attend the meeting can vote in the election.

Your electric cooperative is run by a democratically elected board that is given the privilege to serve because of your vote. So, at this year’s Annual Meeting, not only will you have a blast (and maybe win a prize!), but you will feel good knowing that you had a voice in a very important decision that impacts one of our most vital resources, electricity. We hope to see you on June 4 at the Annual Meeting.
