Electric cooperatives do more than provide safe and reliable electricity — we also help build stronger communities. One of the ways WIN Energy REMC invests in the future is by introducing students to the rewarding careers that keep the lights on for our members.
When people think of careers at an electric cooperative, they often picture lineworkers restoring power after a storm. While those dedicated employees are the backbone of our business, it takes an entire team to serve our members. From engineering, information technology, and operations to accounting, communications, member services, and human resources, cooperatives offer a wide variety of career paths that make a meaningful difference every day.
At WIN Energy REMC, we’re committed to helping students explore those opportunities early. We proudly offer job shadowing experiences and internship opportunities that allow students to gain real-world experience while discovering where their interests and talents fit within our industry. These programs provide valuable hands-on learning and help prepare the next generation of skilled professionals.
Our team also enjoys connecting with students throughout the year by attending local career fairs and community events. These conversations give us the chance to answer questions, discuss career options, and highlight the many ways electric cooperatives serve their communities. As a part of our outreach efforts, we visit local schools to conduct electrical safety demonstrations. While safety is always the primary focus, these visits often spark conversations about the exciting careers available in the electric utility industry and inspire students to consider opportunities they may not have known existed.
The cooperative difference has always been about people. We believe in investing not only in reliable infrastructure but also in the future workforce that will continue serving our communities for generations to come. Whether it’s through a classroom visit, a job shadowing experience, or an internship, every interaction is an opportunity to encourage future leaders and strengthen the communities we serve.
You never know where a simple conversation or hands-on experience might lead. For some students, it could be the first step toward a rewarding career at their local electric cooperative.
