Each summer, Marshall County REMC is proud to support the 4-H Electric program — not only through education but also by helping facilitate electric project judging. This year, we welcomed representatives Carissa Ziemek and TJ Garner from Fulton County REMC and Shadd McLochlin from Miami-Cass REMC to help evaluate the impressive projects built by our local 4-H’ers.

The projects are part of a hands-on curriculum designed to build knowledge and confidence in electrical work. Each division completes a different project:

  • Division 1 builds a circuit board
  • Division 2 constructs an electromagnetic shake light
  • Division 3 creates an extension cord with a trouble light
  • Division 4 assembles a working lamp
  • Advanced participants design and build their own electric project — some even wiring switches and outlets!

The judges carefully inspect each project to ensure it’s wired safely and correctly. Beyond the technical details, they also look for extra effort and creativity. It’s always inspiring to see how much pride and craftsmanship the 4-H members put into their work.

We’re extremely grateful for our continued partnership with our neighboring cooperatives. In the spirit of cooperation, we also return the favor by traveling to their counties to help judge their 4-H Electric projects each year.
