In June, participants in Marshall County REMC’s 4-H Electric Program had the unique opportunity to tour a new home under construction on Pretty Lake. The unfinished home gave students a rare behind-the-scenes look at the electrical system that powers a home — something most people never get to see once the drywall is installed.

As students explored all three levels of the home, they followed the path of the electrical wiring to the basement, where the home’s breaker panel serves as the central hub for the entire electrical system. Seeing the wiring before the walls were finished helped bring many of the concepts they’ve been learning throughout the program to life.

A special thank you goes to the homeowners for opening their construction site to our group, Live Oak Electric for leading the tour and sharing their expertise, and Skyline Builders for allowing students to experience the home during this exciting stage of construction.

Throughout the tour, students answered questions about what they observed and demonstrated just how much they’ve learned this year. Experiences like these help spark curiosity, build practical knowledge, and may even inspire the next generation of electricians, lineworkers, and other skilled professionals.
