Bring the spa home

A day at the spa is an ideal way to de-stress and rejuvenate. But if a retreat doesn’t fit your schedule or budget, a few thoughtful upgrades can transform your bathroom into a calming sanctuary and add luxury to your everyday life.

Refresh the essentials
An impactful first step is upgrading your fixtures. Before disconnecting existing plumbing fixtures, turn off the water supply and drain the lines. To maximize relaxation potential, swap your showerhead for a dual handheld with rain and massage settings. Many require few to no tools and can be installed in minutes. Next, switch the towel racks, toilet paper holder, and faucet. Check what type of faucet your sink is designed for — single hole, center-spread/centerset, or widespread/split-set. Keep the space cohesive by using the same finish throughout. Bronze is durable, exudes warmth, and pairs well with wood and stone. Matte black adds a clean foundation for a contemporary aesthetic.

Make room to relax
Enhance the calm in your bathroom by clearing the clutter. This can be challenging in smaller bathrooms, but a couple of clever hacks can get you there. If you can’t find a free-standing shelf that fits your space, install wall-mounted shelves using prefinished boards and brackets. Woven baskets provide a perfect solution for organizing items that can’t be hidden behind doors. And acrylic risers work well for perfume, cologne, and skin care bottles. To curb the chaos in your shower or bathtub, add an adjustable corner shelving unit. Top it off with a rechargeable lamp and plants for instant coziness and charm.

Bring the outdoors in
Nothing says “spa” like natural elements indoors. Since wood finishes create a warm and comforting atmosphere, consider incorporating bamboo blinds, wood-finish laminate flooring, or teak tiles. Available in a variety of styles, these materials can be installed as simply or creatively as you like. The result will be a room that feels not only peaceful, but uniquely your own.

Stone elements embody understated elegance. Add them with soap trays, decorative accents, or even a collection of your favorite rocks showcased in a glass dish. Pair them with a candle for an effortless spa-inspired touch. To further soften the space, add humidity-loving plants such as pothos or ferns. Display them at varying heights to create visual interest. The less structured the arrangement, the more relaxing the finished space will be.
