Every year, electric cooperatives across the state demonstrate one of the seven cooperative principles — Concern for Community — through what’s known as Community Day. Held each October, Community Day allows cooperatives to give back through service projects in the communities they serve. Nearly 40 unique service projects are completed by Indiana’s electric cooperatives each year.

Because October is also National Co-op Month, it’s a fitting time to put our cooperative principles into action and celebrate what makes the cooperative model unique: our commitment to the communities we call home.

This year, we teamed up with Servants at Work, Inc. (SAWs) to build and install a ramp for a disabled Marshall County resident in need. SAWs constructs high-quality wooden ramps for disabled and low-income individuals, helping improve accessibility and quality of life for residents across Indiana.

We’re grateful for the opportunities like Community Day that allow us to put our concern for community into action. As a cooperative, we’re proud to support the communities we serve and will continue looking for ways to lend a helping hand and make a difference for our neighbors.
