Phase 1 complete: Now accepting sign-ups

Phase 1 of our fiber build, funded through the NLC4 (Next Level Connections 4) grant area, is now fully constructed, and we are currently accepting service sign-ups throughout the entire area.

Residents can sign up for PowerStream Fiber service in two ways:

• Online at PowerStreamFiber.com

• By phone at 812-663-3391

Customers may choose from the following service options:

Lite: 500 Mbps × 500 Mbps

Pro: 1 Gbps × 1 Gbps

Max: 2 Gbps × 2 Gbps

After signing up, our team will contact you to schedule a drop-staking appointment. During this visit, we will review and mark the route for the fiber line from our service line to your home. Drop-staking appointments are scheduled in four-hour windows:

Morning: 8 a.m. – Noon

Afternoon: Noon – 4 p.m.

Once the route is staked, our contractors will install the fiber drop following the agreed-upon path. After the drop is installed to the exterior of your home, we will contact you to schedule your in-home installation, which is also scheduled in four-hour morning or afternoon windows.

From initial sign-up to having service live in your home, the process typically takes two to three weeks, depending on customer availability and weather conditions – particularly during periods of freezing and thawing.

We’re excited to share that more than 300 customers are now subscribed to PowerStream Fiber, and that number continues to grow each day.

Looking ahead: Phase 2 and future expansion

PowerStream Fiber has been preliminarily awarded addresses through the BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) program. These awards remain preliminary, and our official Phase 2 construction will begin once we receive a signed contract from the Indiana Broadband Office, which is expected soon and may already be finalized by the time this article is published.

In preparation, we’ve already begun designing fiber routes to reach the BEAD preliminary award areas and have recently updated our maps to reflect these planned routes. Along the way, we expect to pass many additional homes and businesses and anticipate being able to connect locations beyond the preliminarily awarded BEAD addresses.

As you review the map, you may notice that some areas of our service territory are not included in the Phase 2 build. We are already looking ahead to future expansion phases and want to hear from members who would like PowerStream Fiber service but are not currently included in our planned construction areas.

Members can submit their interest directly through our website — even if they are outside current build phases. This input is critical. The more interest we receive in an area, the stronger the case becomes for expanding service in future phases beyond Phase 2.

We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to expand PowerStream Fiber. We look forward to bringing reliable, high-speed internet service to more members of Decatur County REMC and the communities we proudly serve.
