Kankakee Valley REMC offers an array of opportunities to inspire our next generation of leaders.  Two opportunities that take place over the summer are Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., and Touchstone Energy Camp at Camp Tecumseh.  Both experiences are so much more than sightseeing and fun, they provide participants with experiences to help them deepen their understanding and skillset of what it takes to be a leader.  These students go on to put those skills to use at their school and in the community.

Unfortunately, in late April the decision was made to cancel both the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., and Touchstone Energy Camp due to COVID-19.  Although this was heartbreaking, the safety, health, and wellbeing of the participants was our primary concern.

The seventh graders-to-be selected for Touchstone Energy Camp included:

  • Michael Morrison and Ava Fasshauer from South Central Elementary School
  • Makachi Fitch, a homeschool student from Medaryville
  • Javelin Norem from Oregon Davis Elementary
  • Kerslynn Collins from St. Peter Lutheran School in North Judson

Two local students were also selected to experience Washington, D.C., as part of the Youth Tour delegation.  This year’s delegates included:

  • Jayla Williams from Knox High School
  • Anna Zoll from Boone Grove High School

Congratulations to all the students who were selected to attend summer youth experiences.  We encourage you to continue to be role models in your school and leaders in the community.
