Do you contribute to Operation Round Up with your bill each month?
If you’re part of the nearly 80% of members who do, thank you for starting 2026 off right with your donation, which will support many organizations throughout the year!
For those who need a refresher, LaGrange County REMC’s Operation Round Up program allows members to round up their electric bills each month. This money is then put into a fund and given back locally through community grants each quarter.
You may think it’s just a bit of extra change, but to the nonprofit organizations that receive these grants, it’s so much more. It’s more than three-quarters of a million dollars since the program began!
The first quarter distribution of Operation Round Up funding included:
Prairie Heights Boys Basketball, which was awarded $1,500. The money will go toward fees for camps or AAU. It currently has 50+ kids in kindergarten through fifth grade participating in their camps or AAU program.
Junior Achievement (JA) of LaGrange County, which was awarded $3,000 to increase financial literacy. JA will use the money to support its in-school programming which will reach more than 2,000 K-12 students across LaGrange County during the 2025-26 school year. This grant will help ensure that JA programs remain accessible to all students at no cost to schools or families.
LaGrange County Clothes and Food Basket, was granted $1,000 to help offset the costs associated with the repairs it needs to make on its cooler and freezer.
LifeWise Academy (Lakeland), was granted $1,000. LifeWise is a released-time religious instruction program that provides Bible-based character education to public school students during the school day. It serves an average of 54 students each week in grades 3-6.
For local nonprofit organizations that are seeking funding for a project, please fill out and return an application to the LaGrange County REMC office by Wednesday, April 1, to be considered for the next round of Operation Round Up disbursements. Applications can be downloaded from the REMC website, lagrangeremc.com.
