John Yates, a lineman at Marshall County REMC, recently celebrated 25 years of service with the cooperative.
Yates began his career as a groundman and steadily advanced, later becoming a lineman and now serving as a meter technician. Born and raised in Marshall County, he graduated from Plymouth High School.
Yates and his wife, Erin, live in Marshall County with their three children — Ashton, 11, and 6-year-old twins, Willow and Payton. In his free time, Yates enjoys farming, baling hay at his in-laws’ farm, and raising donkeys, goats, and pigs for 4-H. He also enjoys spending time outdoors with Ashton, playing with tractors.
Yates said his favorite part of the job is connecting with REMC members and hearing their stories. He noted that storm restoration is one of the most challenging aspects of his work.
One of his most memorable moments came while restoring power to the Tyner Substation after it was struck by lightning. Yates recalled that when the crew re-energized the station, unexpected damage caused the entire substation to fail again.
Marshall County REMC proudly recognizes Yates for his dedication and hard work over the past 25 years.
“John is a valued member of our team, and we’re grateful for his commitment to serving our members,” said Dave Lewallen, CEO of Marshall County REMC.
Congratulations, John!
