School is in full swing and summer is coming to a close.  Unfortunately, I had to put the boat away until next summer. But we’ll be pulling out all the fall décor and Halloween decorations before you know it.

We had a very productive summer at Decatur County REMC. We made even more progress on our right-of-way program, completed our lobby and drive through renovation, and hosted an awesome drive-thru member event and virtual meeting. We welcomed a newly elected director and nominating committee members, restored and repaired power to over 4,000 members over Father’s Day weekend as a result of a major storm event, sponsored the July 4 fireworks show at Lake Santee, and continued to deliver on our mission to provide reliable, affordable, friendly service to our members and communities.

So, what’s next on the agenda for Decatur County REMC?

I’m glad you asked!

As you know, we have been working on a strategic plan to guide us into the future and using all the data we’ve collected, we will be defining what the path forward looks like in the next several weeks.  DCREMC has been powering our community for 82 years and we are excited about our future direction and the strategic planning process to guide us.

We are also beginning to plan and prepare for a rate study. We are seeing a decrease in power costs from our power supplier, Hoosier Energy, so this is a good time to review our rate classes, use data and revenue requirements. This means we will review millions of data points to ensure members are being fairly and equitably represented.

Additionally, we will begin developing our operating budget for 2022. As you know, DCREMC is a cooperative, which means we operate as a not-for-profit corporation. After all of our requirements are met and expenses are accounted for, any margin or profits at the end of the fiscal year are allocated back to the members. These are later returned in the form of capital credits.

As you can see, we have a full agenda for the next several months and are excited about the future.  I encourage you to engage with us, share, ask questions, and participate in our open board meetings. You can connect with us on Facebook, through our website, or by calling the office at 812-663-3391. Our team is committed to serving you — focused on our mission and passionate about our cooperative!
