Our reader-submitted recipes in our April 2015 issue (Tofu Scrambler Wrap and Chocolate Banana Coconut Cream Pie) embrace the vegan diet. The recipes we’ve featured provide options for those who simply want to cook a few meatless meals every now and then, or provide those living the vegan lifestyle a few new recipes to try out.skd287280sdc

Vegetarian vs. vegan

Vegetarians do not eat animals, but will consume products produced by animals, such as dairy. The vegan diet is stricter; vegans do not eat anything from an animal. This means no meat, eggs, honey, butter or cheese. The vegan lifestyle is based upon a desire to express nonviolence toward animals; those practicing this lifestyle also avoid other animal products such as leather, wool and fur, and even soaps and cosmetics that contain animal oils or are tested on animals. If you try out this month’s recipes, tell us what you think of them.
