The biggest difference between Kankakee Valley REMC and the other energy providers isn’t just the logo on our trucks or the information provided on the bill you receive. We’re a cooperative created to serve the needs of our membership instead of making profits for investors. While other energy providers have to answer to Wall Street or a board member from a far-off state, we are responsible for answering to you and our other member-consumers.

A board, made up of folks just like you, oversees our operations. They truly want to know what you think about what we do and whether we’re meeting your needs. It’s why we invite you to our annual member appreciation event and annual business meeting. Last year, 1,400 of our members showed up. That’s great, but it does make it a little challenging to chat with everyone.

So, our board has decided to host local district forums throughout the year. Instead of asking you to come to us, we’re scheduling sessions close to you. While we’ll share information about what we’re doing to serve your energy needs, the board’s primary purpose in scheduling these sessions is to listen to you and your neighbors.

Board members want to hear your comments and concerns. They also want to make themselves available to answer your questions about the changing energy landscape and what we’re doing to keep your power reliable and affordable.

We’ll announce the schedule for these sessions in an upcoming newsletter. We hope you can attend.

Cooperatives like ours are at their best when members are actively involved, so I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about your co-op and contribute ideas to help us serve you even better!
