Applications are now open for two Bartholomew County REMC scholarships administered by the Heritage Fund – The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County.

The Alex Barkes Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of former BCREMC employee Alex Barkes, who served as network administrator and was known for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and contagious enthusiasm for life. This scholarship fund will award a total of $6,000 for the 2025-26 academic year.

Applicants must be residents of Bartholomew County or members of a Bartholomew County REMC household in Decatur, Jackson, or Jennings counties.

The Bartholomew County REMC Scholarship is available to dependents of BCREMC members or BCREMC employees. These funds are available to graduating high school seniors as well as adults returning to school after a period in the workforce. Eligible applicants must plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution pursuing a technical certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree.

For both scholarships, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or 5.0 on a 12.0 scale). Academic performance, community involvement, and school activities will all be taken into consideration during the selection process.

To apply, complete the Combined Application through the Heritage Fund. All applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30.
