KV REMC hosted its third annual Trades Camp, bringing together 63 students from 15 schools to explore nine trade professions. Trade participants included electrical journeyman linemen, plumbers, carpenters, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters, operators, electricians, fiber optic installers, and laborers.

Students engaged with professionals to learn about daily responsibilities and educational requirements. “Skilled trades are important to not only the co-op’s future workforce, but many other industries too. The Trades Camp helps students discover opportunities they may not have considered before,” said Scott Sears, KV REMC CEO. The afternoon was devoted to hands-on activities that offered practical insight into each profession.

A good way to learn whether a trades career is for you is to participate in hands-on activities. Trades Camp attendees had a chance to do just that. Here they are learning how to wire a light switch.
