The member difference: Owned by you. Built for you.

BACK to the BASICS

If we’re getting back to the basics, here’s one that matters most: Decatur County REMC is owned by its members.

Not shareholders. Not investors. You.

When you receive electric service from DCREMC, you’re more than a customer — you’re a member-owner. That means you have a voice. Through democratic control, each member has one vote, and board directors are elected from the membership to represent the membership. Influence isn’t based on how much electricity you use. It’s one member, one vote.

As a not-for-profit cooperative, DCREMC operates at cost. When revenues exceed expenses, the margins don’t go to outside investors. They’re allocated back to members as capital credits — your share of the cooperative’s financial performance.

Those funds help maintain and improve the system over time. When the co-op’s financial position allows, capital credits are retired and returned to members. It’s not a rebate. It’s ownership in action.

The cooperative model was built for the long haul — steady, responsible, and focused on serving the people who own it.

Owned by you. Built for you. That’s the member difference.
