Routine vegetation management is an important part of providing safe, reliable electric service to our members. In late August or early September, BCREMC will begin spraying vegetation beneath power lines in areas that were recently trimmed in the Grandview, Woodside, and Taylorsville areas.

Spraying will focus primarily on fields, ditches, fence rows, brushy areas, and other locations beneath power lines that are not regularly mowed or maintained. BCREMC does not spray maintained yards. Areas within subdivisions will not be sprayed, although roads and access paths leading into subdivisions may be treated if necessary.

Our contractor, Progressive Solutions, uses a low-volume, targeted application method. Herbicides are applied either from a backpack sprayer or an ATV-mounted sprayer, allowing for precise treatment of problem vegetation while minimizing runoff and reducing the amount of herbicide used.

If you do not want your property sprayed, or if there are specific plants or areas within the right-of-way you would like us to avoid, you must complete a No-Spray Agreement. Signed agreements must be received at the BCREMC office by Aug. 21 for the property to be exempt from spraying. Landowners who enroll in the program agree to assume responsibility for maintaining vegetation within the designated no-spray area. The contractors performing this work are fully licensed and certified by the Indiana State Chemist. All herbicides used are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and registered with the appropriate state and federal agencies.
