The territory map indicates where crews will be working in 2017 to conduct right-of-way work. Where you see diagonal lines is where crews will be performing maintenance. We thank you for your understanding and help as they work in these areas.

Kankakee Valley REMC‘s annual right–of-way maintenance begins next month. Our contractor is scheduled to start work on our system in mid-July.

The Daltons, based in Warsaw, will work for Kankakee Valley REMC to perform brush and small woody plant chemical vegetation control in the areas described below and shown on the system map. The Daltons is fully licensed and certified to do this work by the Indiana State Chemist.

Herbicides used will be EPA approved.  During the spray operation, The Daltons will take care to avoid sensitive areas (such as front yards, tree plantations, ornamental plantings, crops, gardens, lakes and streams) adjacent to the right-of-way.

Contract crews will be working in the following areas of our territory — Porter County: Westchester, Pine, Liberty, Jackson and Washington townships. LaPorte County: Cass, Clinton, Dewey, Hanna, Lincoln, Noble, Prairie, Johnson, Union and Washington townships. Starke County: Davis and Oregon townships north of U.S. 30. St. Joseph County: Liberty and Lincoln townships.

If you would prefer to maintain the right-of-way adjacent to your land in some other fashion, such as mowing, please follow the instructions:

  1. Call The Daltons at 888-267-7511 with your questions or problems with the right-of-way maintenance operation.
  2. Post a sign on the right-of-way at each end of your property that reads “NO SPRAYING.” Make sure it’s legible and visible from the roadway.
  3. Make sure all the brush is removed within the site by July 17 and continues to be maintained. If the brush is not removed, then we must treat the brush as part of our vegetation management program.

We need and truly appreciate your cooperation each year to maintain a good right-of-way program.
