Apprentice Lineman Sawyer Cripe works to rescue a mannequin during safety training.

Each month, Marshall County REMC linemen attend various safety training sessions in conjunction with Indiana Electric Cooperatives. This includes the pole top rescue pictured here.

Pole top rescue training is designated to retain a lineman’s ability to properly rescue an injured and/or stranded lineman. As part of the annual training session, each lineman must climb a pole and rescue a 160-pound mannequin hanging from the utility pole. The lineman must then secure the mannequin using ropes and clips to safely bring him back to the ground.

Marshall County REMC continually strives to keep safety a top priority by performing monthly training sessions, such as the pole top rescue. The cooperative and you can rest assured that the linemen are properly trained to handle almost any situation.
