After a multi-year planning and construction phase, Southeastern Indiana REMC has moved into its new headquarters facility. The new building was constructed on the cooperative’s existing land and is located on Buckeye Street in Osgood just north of the old headquarters building. The old building will be torn down later this summer to create additional parking and improve traffic flow for the delivery of materials to the warehouse.

The old headquarters building was built in the ’40s, remodeled in the ’70s and needed extensive structural repairs, as well as an overhaul of the heating and cooling system. Originally, the board of directors considered a remodel of the existing building. However, after bringing in multiple contractors for bids, it became obvious that the cost to make the repairs was not worth the investment. This led to the decision to build a new headquarters facility.

The new space was designed to support the cooperative’s strategic initiative of improved workflow and productivity through activity-based workspaces. “Making this move will improve efficiency and collaboration while providing an exceptional work environment for our employees,” said Keith Mathews, general manager. “Bringing employee groups together in key locations will make SEIREMC a more streamlined and agile organization.”

“We are making a great effort to make this transition as seamless as possible for our members and employees” said Bryan Miller, director of information technology and diversified services. In late April, the employees began packing up their desks and furniture was assembled in the new office space. The IT department began the transition of the network servers, internet, phone services, and security systems for the new building. The construction crews completed their final punch list by the middle of May, and employees began transitioning to their new workspaces.

An open house is being planned for late summer or early fall in conjunction with a member appreciation day event. More information and details, including the date, will be provided to all members as soon as they are available.
