Kankakee Valley REMC is excited to announce its Touchstone Energy Camp and Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., participants. Students were selected from applications sent to the cooperative for the individual programs. In addition to the applications, students had to submit an essay on a topic relating to each experience. These all–expense–paid opportunities are sponsored by Kankakee Valley REMC in cooperation with Indiana Electric Cooperatives.

Touchstone Energy Camp takes place at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston on June 7-10. Seventh graders–to–be attending include Lucas Goodwin, South Central Elementary School; Hope Nielsen, South Central Elementary School; Lillian Tolmen, South Central Elementary School; and Ashlee Sinkiewicz, Boone Grove Middle School.

The Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., provides incoming high school seniors a better understanding of electric cooperatives and government, along with experiencing American history as they tour museums and monuments. This year, two local students will represent KVREMC on the trip — Rylee Briel, Valparaiso High School, and Samantha Williams, Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities.

Watch for more information on their experiences in a future Electric Consumer.
