Aunt Gwen’s Strawberry Salad Recipe


  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ t. salt
  • ½ t. paprika
  • ¼ t. pepper
  • 1 large head romaine lettuce
  • 1 large head Boston lettuce
  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • ½ cup toasted, sliced almonds


To make dressing, combine all ingredients in a large jar, cover and shake vigorously. (You can first mix the vinegar and sugar and heat to be sure the sugar is dissolved.) Tear lettuce into bite-size pieces. Mix all salad ingredients together right before serving. Serve with dressing. Leftover dressing can be stored and used again. Do not refrigerate the dressing, as the olive oil will harden.
