Easily watch your electric use and stay up to date with daily reminders and updates with the Prepaid Metering program. Go green with no monthly statement and maintain your balance by adding $20 or more at any time.

The new Prepaid Metering program for Marshall County REMC members goes live on Monday, May 20. Unlike traditional payment processes, this optional program offers flexibility and control for the members’ use and payment of electricity. Simply add money to the account online, over the phone, or in the office, as needed. It’s like filling a gas tank on your vehicle — pay for as little or as much as you think you will need.

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

  • No additional cost to participate
  • No deposit
  • No late fees
  • No due dates
  • No disconnect or reconnect fees

New and existing members who qualify for the standard “residential and farm rate” will be eligible to participate. New members can join by opening an account with a minimum initial credit balance of $100. If you are an existing member who would like to switch to this program, account deposits will be paid to the outstanding balance, and the remaining funds will be applied as a credit to the prepaid account.

HOW IT WORKS

The appropriate charges are deducted from the account balance the following day of service, at approximately 9:30 a.m., after the meter reading. Monthly service charges are prorated and calculated into the daily deduction. Members will receive alerts based on the notification options they select.

Accounts with a $0 or negative balance following the daily read will be automatically disconnected Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Disconnection occurs after the member has been alerted through the notification options they selected. Members are responsible for monitoring their accounts. Once payment is processed, service will be automatically restored.

Members can add funds to their accounts anytime through the SmartHub app or online portal, in person at the REMC office during regular business hours, or by calling the after-hours IVR system.

Please note that members who enroll in this prepaid metering program will be ineligible for payment arrangements. This program is not available to members who are enrolled in the budget billing program. Remote meter accessibility is preferred but not required.

If you are interested in this new program and would like additional information or to enroll, contact the REMC office by phone at 574-936-3161 or stop in following the May 20 launch date.
