PowerSwitch program getting an upgrade

If you participate in the PowerSwitch AC program, your switch is getting an upgrade.

Starting in May, Kankakee Valley REMC employees will begin visiting homes to upgrade the switch devices installed on participants’ air conditioners. This upgrade is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the program’s efficiency, and the process will be quick and minimally disruptive to you. You won’t even need to be home. However, if there’s a locked gate at your property preventing access to your AC unit, we will leave a note with details and arrange a time for another visit.

If you’re not familiar with the PowerSwitch program, it was developed by Wabash Valley Power Alliance (WVPA), our power provider, to help reduce demand during extreme heat when grid instability is a concern. This program is different from the time-of-use rate, which is a rate that is adjusted based on times during the day. The switch installed on an AC unit does not activate during daily peak periods; it only activates when necessary to stabilize the grid.

If you have questions about upgrading the switches, don’t hesitate to contact the KV REMC office.
