It started with a vision to bring fast, reliable, affordable internet to the underserved corners of our community. And now, that vision is officially becoming a reality.

PowerStream Fiber has connected its first subscriber and more, marking a huge milestone in the co-ops mission to deliver world-class fiber internet to rural homes and businesses.

Our first hookup took place on Aug. 11, and while it may look like just another wire running into a home, it represents something far bigger: progress, connection, and a commitment to serve.

A MOMENT WORTH CELEBRATING

The first connections were made in the Lookout area, on Hwy 48, where construction crews have been hard at work installing fiber-optic cables and the necessary equipment to bring homes online. Local families are now enjoying lightning-fast internet streaming movies, working from home, taking online classes, and even managing small businesses with ease.

Rodney and Jennifer Swinney were the lucky first sign-ups. They share, Weve struggled for years with slow, unreliable service. Now, everything works and works great, including streaming multiple TVs. Were so grateful PowerStream is here.

PowerStream Fiber is more than just another internet provider. Its an investment in the future of our rural communities.

Built and operated by Decatur County REMC, this 100% fiber-optic network delivers consistent, symmetrical speeds that rival and often exceed what’s available in urban areas.

And unlike some big-name providers, PowerStream Fiber is member-focused, just like the co-op itself.

This is about more than broadband its about keeping our community connected, competitive, and future-ready, said Brett Abplanalp, CEO of Decatur County REMC. The digital divide has hit rural Indiana hard, and were doing something about it.

WHAT’S NEXT?

With the first subscriber connected, PowerStream Fiber is gaining momentum.

More homes in the phase 1 build area are being hooked up every week, and construction is expanding rapidly to reach additional neighborhoods.

Residents in the eligible zones can now sign up for service, and new areas will be added in phases as the buildout continues. When your address becomes eligible, you will receive an email, postcard, or phone call from PowerStream Fiber letting you know its time to sign up. Our goal is to bring affordable, high-speed fiber internet to as many co-op members as possible, without compromising reliability or customer care.
