We are eagerly counting down the days to Friday, June 14, as one of our most anticipated events approaches, your Annual Meeting. I always look forward to this event because it’s an excellent opportunity for me, our employees, and our directors to talk with our members and hear what’s on their minds.

Engaging with you and understanding your vision for our community’s energy future is not just important; it’s essential. After all, every decision we make is profoundly influenced by the needs and aspirations of our community members. As you are likely aware, the energy industry is undergoing unprecedented transformation. Consumer needs and changing technology impact nearly every aspect of managing and delivering energy to local homes, schools, and businesses.

As we navigate significant changes in the coming years, we need to hear from you and your neighbors to inform our planning as we strive to meet the long-term needs of all Decatur County REMC members.

Local input is key, as those closest to the community understand its needs and priorities, guiding where cooperative dollars are allocated. Each year, we invest funds into updating our local system, bolstering reliability and grid resilience. Consider this: every time you pay your electric bill, you invest directly into your community, as all funds remain here locally. Through these investments in our local infrastructure, we ensure reliable power for your everyday needs.

Most consumers likely don’t equate active involvement with their electric company with helping their community. However, Decatur County REMC is far from your typical utility company. As a cooperative, our very structure is designed to prioritize serving our members and the broader community we call home.

Our core purpose and mission are to provide safe, reliable, and affordable power. But as a co-op, we’re also motivated by service to our community rather than profits. This is exactly why our theme this year is Powering our Community, Energizing Connections.

We hope you will exercise the benefits of your co-op membership and join us for the Annual Meeting on Friday, June 14. I encourage you to visit me at the CEO Connect Booth that day.
