Boone Power now offers members a more convenient way to pay their electric bill in cash at participating retail locations

Not everyone wants to pay their bills the same way. While many Boone Power members use SmartHub or automatic bank draft to pay their electric bill, some prefer to pay with cash.

Boone Power still accepts cash payments at our office. But now, members have another option. You can pay your Boone Power bill or add funds to your account (if you use prepaid billing) at participating retail locations, such as 7-Eleven, CVS, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Kroger, Pilot Travel Centers, and Walgreens.

Through a new cash payment service powered by VanillaDirect, you can generate a barcode through Boone Power’s SmartHub mobile app or website and use it at participating retailers to make your payment at checkout, with a $1.50 convenience fee per transaction, charged by VanillaDirect.

It’s an option that may be more convenient if you prefer cash payments and don’t want to make a trip to the Boone Power office while you’re already out running errands. 

How it works

  • Log in to SmartHub. From the “Bill and Pay” menu, select “Pay by Cash.” Use the search function to find participating payment locations near you.
  • You can simply show the barcode from your SmartHub app at the retailer, or, if you’re using SmartHub on a computer, print the barcode and take it with you.
  • At the retailer, present the barcode to the cashier for scanning and processing your payment. 
  • Your receipt will show the payment as “VDPAY”. The $1.50 convenience fee will be displayed on the receipt as “INCOMM FEE.”
  • Your payment will be transmitted to Boone Power in real time.

If you prefer to avoid the $1.50 convenience fee charged by the technology provider, you can continue to make cash payments at the Boone Power office during regular business hours. We know convenience looks different for everyone. Whether you prefer to pay by phone, mail a check, or use cash, we’re working to offer options that make doing business with your cooperative easier.
