Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up Trust awarded six local high school graduates with scholarships totaling $8,000. Two $2,000 and four $1,000 scholarships were awarded.

The recipients of the $2,000 scholarships were Olivia Kroeger, Chesterton High School, and Alyssa Hoover, Crown Point High School.

The $1,000 recipients were Emily Rausch, Winamac Community High School; Kaylee Welkie, LaCrosse High School; Emma O’Brien, Morgan Township High School; and Sophia DeRuntz, Chesterton High School.

Applicants completed an application identifying their involvement in school and community activities. In addition, they were asked to write an essay describing a community or neighborhood improvement project. Within the essay, they were required to describe the steps they would take to accomplish the project and prepare an itemized budget for the project.

For recipients to obtain their full scholarship, they are required to complete two of the following activities with the cooperative; attend the annual meeting, participate in a community activity, job shadow or attend a board meeting.

Congratulations to the winners and best of luck as you continue your journeys in the fall.
