Six local high school seniors were the recipients of the Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up scholarship totaling $8,000.

Two $2,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships are given annually to graduating high school seniors whose parents/guardians participate in the Operation Round Up program. Students will be recognized at their individual high school academic awards programs.

This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipi-ents were:

• Anneliese Pressel, Morgan Township High School;

• Hannah Shidler, North Judson-San Pierre High School.

The $1,000 scholarship recipients were:

•  Luke Hubbard, Wheeler High School;

• Melanie Edmond, Wheeler High School;

• Madeline Hewlett, Knox High School;

• Hannah Leffew, LaCrosse High School.

To be considered for the scholarship, students had to fill out an application identifying their involvement in school and extracurricular activities, awards received and jobs held. Students were also challenged with an essay. This essay asked them to envision how they would use a $2,000 grant for a community or neighborhood improvement project.

Congratulations to these outstanding students who have shown dedication in their classroom studies and commit-ment to the community in which they live. Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up wishes each of them much success as they continue their educa-tion this fall.
