Operation Round Up grants awarded

Virgil Benge was awarded a $5,000 grant for playground equipment at the Jamestown location. Scott Ailes, senior pastor at Jamestown Christian Church, is excited about the new playground and the opportunities the equipment will bring to families that want to play outside in Jamestown. 

The Operation Round Up board voted to grant $5,000 toward playground equipment for Virgil Benge Community Sports Complex (VBCSC) located in Jamestown. According to the VBCSC committee, the current playground is unsafe and in need of an upgrade. 

“We have had several families that come out here looking for playground equipment,” VBCSC Board President Scott Ailes said. “We felt like we need to have a safe and reliable place for them to come spend time as a family now more than ever.”

The board also granted $1,600 to the Caring Center on behalf of the Boone County Community Gardens to upgrade the stone garden path at the Youth Learning Garden located at 311 E. Main St. in Lebanon. The project will line 450 feet. of rescued brick from the Lebanon Street renovation. 

The Hoosier Heritage Quilt Guild was granted $848 to make baby blankets for Witham Hospital. Each year, the group gives 64 blankets. The hospital needs 50 additional blankets this year. 

Eagle Scout Paul Wheeler was granted $500 toward his project at St. Alphonsus Ligouri in Zionsville. The project will involve constructing a stone pathway at the Stations of the Cross on the grounds making the path more accessible during the Easter season.

Eagle Scout receives funding for COVID related project

Hayden Schow will give the Zionsville Boys and Girls Club a COVID update as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Hayden Schow was granted funds to work with the Boys and Girls Club in Zionsville to make the club more “COVID-safe.” 

“I will be replacing multiple couches in the main club area with benches, which are easier to clean and sanitize,” Schow said. 

“I will also be developing a divider system in their electronics room to create social distancing between computer stations.”

Schow plans to start a Go Fund Me page to find the rest of the funds for his project. 

The Lebanon Boys and Girls Club recently held its grand reopening. Renovations included a new gym floor, carpeting and kitchen/bathroom remodel.
