This year will mark 50 years of business for H&R. Founded in 1976 by Dave Hoffman, the late Donny Hoffman (Dave’s brother), and the late Frank Rahman (Dave’s brother-in-law). The business was officially incorporated in 1978 as H&R Aluminum Company, Inc. in Ferdinand, Indiana.

The business started out by installing aluminum siding, soffit, and seamless gutters. The three owners initially worked out of a small, old barn in Ferdinand. In 1978, the first building was constructed at the current location. A couple of years later, the second building was erected, and several additions were made to both buildings in the decades that followed.

Donny and Frank both left the company in the early 1980s to pursue other interests. Dave and his wife, Margie, then ran the business. Many other aspects of construction were added in the 1980s and 90s, including garages, houses, additions, and steel buildings. Lumber, building supplies, and decorative rock sales also began during the late 1980s and 1990s.

The second generation, Dave and Margie’s children, Jeremy Hoffman, Angie Hill, Sara Meunier, and Nathan Hoffman, all joined the company in the late 1990s and early 2000s. As the company grew, more warehouse space was needed. Building #3 was constructed in 2003, with an addition made in 2012. Building #4 was built in 2017. In 2020, the business name was changed to H&R Building and Landscape Supply to better align with its growing sales in building and landscape supplies. H&R currently has a full-line lumber yard and sells all types of building and landscape supplies. Delivery to your home or jobsite is available with a piggyback forklift truck, boom truck, or dump truck. Residential and light commercial construction services are also available.

Dave and Margie are currently enjoying retired life. H&R is now run by their children, along with several other employees who are treated as family. The third generation is also starting to get involved in the business with help during the summer months and after school.
