May board highlights

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the May 29 board meeting.

1. All directors were present along with CEO Steve Seibert and Administrative Assistant Lisa Hinton.  

2. The April 29 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

3. The May 1 special board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

4. The membership certificates and vouchers were reviewed and approved.

5. The director’s report was reviewed and approved.

6. The board approved a bylaw amendment.

7. Seibert reviewed the Hoosier Energy wholesale power cost tracker (WPCT) effective July 1.  

8. Office/IT Manager Karen Mangum gave a departmental update.

9. The CEO report was presented with Seibert reporting the following items:

a. Seibert provided a broadband/fiber to the home (FTTH) update.

b. Seibert informed the board a RUS audit is complete.

c. Seibert reported on a Lincolnland Economic Development sponsorship request.

d. Seibert updated the board on the NRECA legislative conference that he and director Randy Kleaving attended.

e. Seibert reported Manager of Member Services Rachael Goldsberry completed meetings with irrigation rate members.

f. Seibert informed the board an employee health screening will be held May 30.

g. Seibert provided an AMI update.  We have received 1,500 new meters.  Approximately 500 of the new meters have been installed.

h. Seibert reported apprentice linemen Ryan Cassidy and Clint Heeke will be completing eight-hour rubber glove training. Their four-year apprenticeship training will be complete in June.

i. Seibert informed the board the spray crew will start May 28 and will begin spraying on the New Haven and Holiday World substations.

j. Seibert reported the following meeting dates:  Orange County REMC annual meeting – June 7, CFC Forum – July 1-3, and CoBank conference July 15-16.

10. Roger Wenning, job training and safety instructor with Indiana Electric Cooperatives, provided annual hearing tests on April 30. Chuck Tiemann, job training and safety instructor with IEC, provided pole top and bucket truck rescue training on May 21. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents and no public liability claims to report. 

11. An annual meeting committee meeting has been scheduled for June 21.

12. Directors approved participation in the NRUCFC Cooperative System Integrity fund.

13. Director Gary Waninger reported on the Hoosier Energy board meeting held May 13.  

14. Director training information was provided to directors.

15. The next two regularly scheduled board of directors meetings will be June 19 and July 31.
