March board highlights

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the March 31 board meeting.

1. All directors were present. Also present were CEO Steve Seibert, Administrative Assistant Lisa Hinton and Accountant Amy Ramsey.  Present via Webex was Earl Ridlen of the auditing firm LWG. 

2. The Feb. 24 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. 

3. The membership certificates were reviewed.

4. The vouchers were reviewed and approved.

5. The preliminary February directors’ reports were reviewed.

6. Ridlen of LWG reviewed the 2020 Audit Report in detail. After review, the board approved the 2020 Audit Report as presented.

7. Seibert provided an update on the FTTH/broadband project with PSC.

8. The CEO report was presented with Seibert reporting the following items:

a. Seibert reported we continue to monitor local COVID-19 data.

b. Seibert informed the board that cooperative employees will continue a normal work schedule for April while following CDC guidance.

c. Seibert discussed COVID-19 vaccine availability.

d. Seibert updated the board on Southern Indiana Power’s new website.

e. Seibert reported on a pole yard expansion project with Hoosier Energy.

f. Seibert informed the board he hired Kara Gunn to fill the open CSR position; she will begin on April 5.

g. Seibert provided a Riverview Energy update.

h. Seibert reported April 12 is National Lineman Appreciation Day, and
April 21 is National Administrative Professionals Day.

i. Seibert let the board know the 2021 TSE ACSI survey will soon be underway.

j. Seibert reported the following meeting dates: Hoosier Energy annual meeting (virtual) – April 6, NRECA Legislative conference (virtual) – April 19, SIP annual meeting (virtual) – April 20, CFC Forum – June 14-16.

9. Jon Elkins, vice president of safety, training and compliance at IEC, conducted PPE, rubber protective equipment and fall restraint safety training on Feb. 25. Chuck Tiemann, safety instructor at IEC, performed CPR refresher training on March 24. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents and no public liability claims to report.

10. A motion was made, seconded and carried by the board to approve the retirement of 1996 capital credit allocations in 2021.

11. Director Gary Waninger reported on an Operation Round Up trustees meeting held on March 24. Five grant applications totaling $15,350, and four scholarships totaling $2,000 were approved for funding.

12. Waninger reported on a Hoosier Energy board meeting held March 29.

13. Waninger reported on the 2021 NRECA PowerXchange held virtually Feb. 24 and March 2-4.

14. Director Randy Kleaving reported on the 2021 NRECA Directors Conference held virtually March 23-24.

15. The next regularly scheduled board of directors meetings will be held Wednesday, April 28.
