Chelsea VanAken, daughter of Steuben County REMC system engineer David VanAken, has been awarded the 2017 Indiana REMC Managers’ Association Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to the son or daughter of an employee or director of Indiana’s electric cooperatives to be used for furthering his or her education.

VanAken is a graduate of Fremont High School and served as valedictorian of her graduating class. This fall, she will attend Valparaiso University and will double major in biology and chemistry, with a pre-medicine track. While in high school, she completed several dual credit classes to help her with her collegiate path, including psychology, sociology, government, economics, Spanish, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, physics, chemistry, English and medical terminology.

Her father, David Van Aken, has been an employee of Steuben County REMC for 11 years. He currently handles the cooperative’s engineering, GIS mapping and AMI system, among many other responsibilities.

Congratulations!
