This time of year, people start thinking about personal New Year’s resolution goals. While making your personal goals, think about one for your home, too. Maybe this year you could focus on energy efficiency and saving money on large energy users, like lighting.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2014, residential lighting made up about 150 billion kWh or 14 percent of a homeowner’s electric consumption. LEDs require 75 percent to 80 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and can last 25 times longer, by far the longest lifespan yet. If saving on lighting is a goal you’d want to pursue, let your cooperative lend a hand.

LED bulbs are again available at your cooperative starting at just $1, tax included. We are excited to announce new bulb styles in 2018 too. This program will only be available to KV REMC members and only on bulbs purchased at the cooperative headquarters in Wanatah. Residential members will no longer be able to purchase LEDs at a local retailer and submit the receipt for a rebate through Power Moves®.

As a courtesy to our members, you can purchase four types of Energy Star LEDs at the REMC office:
• 60-watt equivalent, 10W, 2700K (soft white) — $1;
• 60-watt equivalent, 10W, 5,000K (daylight) — $1;
• 65-watt equivalent, 8W, 2,700K can light (soft white) — $2.50;
• 100-watt equivalent, 15W, 5,000K — $2.50.

Members can purchase up to 30 bulbs per calendar year under the program guidelines.

Additional lighting rebates are available to commercial, industrial and agricultural KV REMC members through the Power Moves® program in 2018.
