Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Southern Indiana Power sponsored three students on the Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., June 8-15. Youth Tour provides young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, learn about government, experience American history and gain a better understanding about their electric co-op.

Youth Tour delegates Elizabeth Dauby, Kylie Shourds and Kyla Dilger represented Southern Indiana Power at the FDR Memorial in D.C.

This year, 107 Indiana students represented 36 Indiana electric cooperatives on the trip. More than 1,800 students from 46 states traveled to Washington, D.C., for the week-long experience.
The following students represented Southern Indiana Power on Youth Tour:

  • Elizabeth Dauby, Perry Central High School
  • Kylie Shourds, South Spencer High School
  • Kyla Dilger, Heritage Hills High School

Students participating in the trip visited the Flight 93 Memorial, the Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian museums, the National Mall memorials, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps. They also went on a night cruise on the Potomac River.

During the trip, Indiana Youth Tour students participated in a youth rally where students shared their thoughts and opinions on a variety of timely issues. The youth rally prepared the students for a day on Capitol Hill where they met with Indiana’s congressional delegation.
