February is often associated with Valentine’s Day, a time when we reflect on what matters most and the relationships we hold close. At Henry County REMC, this season is also a reminder of something we care deeply about year-round: our members and the cooperative principles that connect us.

One principle especially close to the heart of any electric cooperative is democratic member control. As a member-owned organization, Henry County REMC is guided not by distant shareholders, but by neighbors serving neighbors. That principle comes into focus each year during director election season, and February marks the start of that important process.

This month, members in Districts 1, 3, 5, and 6 who are interested in serving on the REMC board of directors will be picking up candidate packets, considering whether to run, and beginning the steps required to place their name on the ballot. Serving as a director is a meaningful way to give back — helping guide decisions that affect rates, reliability, long-term planning, and the future of our cooperative.

Our directors play a critical role in representing the voices of our members and ensuring that Henry County REMC remains strong, financially sound, and focused on local needs. If you’ve ever felt called to make a difference, this may be the season to explore that opportunity.

February is also a time to celebrate the partnerships and businesses that make our communities thrive. This year, we’re proud to recognize our member Rihm Foods as it celebrates an incredible 100 years of service in Henry County. For a century, Rihm Foods has demonstrated what it means to be rooted in community.

It has adapted with the times while staying true to family values, quality, and service. Its story reflects the same spirit that drives cooperatives: commitment, resilience, and care for the people you serve.

As we move through this month of reflection, gratitude, and decision-making, I encourage you to stay engaged with your cooperative. Whether that means considering a run for the board, voting in the upcoming election, or simply staying informed, your participation truly matters.

At Henry County REMC, we don’t just deliver power — we’re powered by our members. And that connection is something worth celebrating, this February and always.
