Last month, the Junior Board of Directors demonstrated its commitment to community outreach and support through two impactful service projects.
Throughout the eight-month program, students were required to complete individual community service hours. For each hour served, KV REMC pledged a set dollar amount. Students reported their monthly hours at each session, which were tracked and totaled. KV REMC Operation Round Up funds were then used to support the group service projects.
The first project supported new mothers at the Women’s Care Center in LaPorte and Plymouth. Students assembled and delivered layette care packages filled with newborn essentials. Each center also received a cash donation, along with diapers, wipes, and infant clothing.
The second project addressed a cause close to many students: suicide prevention. The Junior Board organized a Walk/Run that drew over 100 participants. Many walked in memory of loved ones lost to suicide. Through community service hours, donations, and race registrations, the event raised $5,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention — Indiana Chapter.
“The students this year showed great leadership and a desire to truly make a difference in their community,” said Amanda Steeb, director of marketing and communications. “We are reminded that our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow but are leading today.”
